Let's take a look at a few of the more popular home cure for cold sores.

Ice - As one of the oldest known methods, this one has been shown to work quite well at times. When you first begin to feel the signs and symptoms of a cold sore coming on, put an ice cube in a thin cloth and apply it where your sore is beginning to hurt. Do this 3-4 times a day.

What makes this cold sore treatment work? The ice helps to deaden the blister before it can appear. Be sure to start doing this at the onset of a sore beginning to form. Don't wait until it's too late.

Aloe Vera - Here is another cold sore treatment that works when you do find yourself with a blister. Try taking an aloe vera leaf and begin to rub the liquid that comes from the leaf onto your cold sore blister. Try doing this at least a few times a day and before bedtime. In a few days your cold sore should be gone. There are many people who grow aloe vera plants in their home just for this very reason.

Vitamin B - These vitamins have been shown to help get rid of cold sore fast. By including extra Vitamin B-12 in your daily supplements you'll get an even better effect.

Tea Tree Oil - Another good treatment who many people swear is one of the best home remedy for cold sores around. Made into a drink, tea tree oil is mixed together with a couple sage leaves and ginger powder, and mixed in with boiling water. By drinking this 2-3 times a day your cold sore can be gone within a few days.

Coconut Oil - Take 100 ml of coconut oil, 2ml of dettol, and 3ml or carbolic acid, mix them together and apply it twice daily right on the infected area. I have heard from others that this is also effective in treating boils and mosquito bites.

Other Home Cure For Cold Sores - Witch hazel, spirit of camphor and lemon balm extract are a few others that have been around for a while and said to work.

Food also plays a major role in how long a cold sore will stick around. Try to avoid eating chocolate, nuts, peas, seeds, oatmeal, or any wheat products. They contain arginine, which is a good friend to the herpes simplex virus. Salt and coffee should also be reduced as well.

The next time you think a cold sore is trying to break out, try one of these home remedy for cold sores and see if it doesn't give you much needed relief.
